A01 Se7en - Opening Sequence Analysis

The sounds in this opening sequence resemble, screams, screeching, the noise of a high pitched tape player fast forwarding a cassette, the sound of a saw, cogs, robot-like noises, industrial sounds, wind chimes, banging of metal, urban drum like beat, welding, scrapings, radio transition, white noise, a drum set, birds, a heart beat, whistling and a typewriter. There are many layers of sound added throughout the sequence, and the music gets louder as the sequence drags out and fades at the end.

Words are highlighted in the sequence, these are, pregnant, God, transexual, foot, Se7en and C24. C24 is an enigma as, at the moment, we do not know what this stands for.

The visuals in this sequence are scruffy looking, they're in a sepia tint. There are images of a man scrapping his fingertips off with a razor, camera film, distorted hands, images of children with their eyes crossed out, needles, blood drops, photo developing, numbers (enigma), tweezers, money, cotton wool, an object that almost looked like a revolver, cello tape lifting a fingerprint (maybe to steal an identity) and a collection of books. The man in this opening sequence is always referring back to book.

By looking at the opening of this film, you can easily see that this is a thriller that will have a specific demographic. Not every one will enjoy a thriller, and these films are mainly more male orientated but women do enjoy the films aswell.
